Sapa Sincronia is an interspecies improvisation by the producer Gama, released under the moniker Numa Gama. The one take 24-minutes recording contains interactions between the producer and the frogs of the highland region of Rio de Janeiro. Feedback, sampling and synthesis techniques are used as tools of communication between animals. Sapa Sincronia is a provocation to the anthropocene and a proposal to syncronize with other life forms in everything we do, so we can integrate with their needs and what can be learned from them. It is a study on of how beings influence each other.

Sometime in 2018, when I was visiting my mother in Rio de Janeiro, I went on small family trip to Serrinha do Alambari. A beautiful place in the highlands, few hours from the city. In the place we stayed there was a small artificial lake, sitting there for so long that there was an ecosystem created inside. We arrived in the full moon and soon I noticed a strong movement with the frogs. I have never experienced such loud ribbets and croaks, not even in the Amazon. I took my speakers, recorder and computer and settled them up near the lake and started to record them and play some simple waves. Instantly, I noticed they would react to the sound. Specific tones and frequencies made each species react differently. The low-singing frogs were really captivated to hear a B flat for example. Tuned in their own way, of course. I started experimenting at that moment with different techniques including feedback, sampling and synthesis. The result is a 24 minute recording called Sapa Sincronia. I call it a Sincronia as a provocation to our anthropocentric way of creation and as a proposal to communicate with other life forms in everything we do, so we can syncronize with what we can learn from them, and listen to their needs."
